2017 has already been a busy year for trans representation in gaming, but that doesnt necessary mean its been a good one. With the right care in the design of these games, people wont have to choose one or the other.
''Ubisoft has released three multiplayer focused games in as many years. This is not news or that surprising. Nearly every big name in the industry has at least one title that focuses purely on multiplayer. If successful, a good multiplayer title can support a company for years to come.''
Mass Effect: Andromeda releases tomorrow and BioWare has already released its first patch. According to the company, this patch addresses some issues that its community reported while playing the EA/Origin early access version.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is an expansive action role-playing game with a few great moments that recapture the high points of the landmark trilogy that came before it, and energetic combat and fantastic sound effects create a potent sci-fi atmosphere. But without consistently strong writing or a breakout star in its cast to carry it through the long hours and empty spaces, disappointments like a lack of new races, no companion customization, and major performance problems and bugs take their toll.
ThisGenGaming says "Unfortunately a developer working on Mass Effect Andromeda has confirmed that what you're seeing now is with the day one patch also. The dev has ruled out many fixes coming at launch too. Many feel that this could be cause many people to cancel their pre-order and buy when fixed or not buy the game whatsoever."
Mass Effect Andromeda's animation is under scrutiny again as players get an early go on the game via EA Access. It's... generating some mixed results, with players capturing videos of patchy, uncanny-valley, facial movements and some extremely interesting walking animations.
ThisGenGaming says "It appears that Mass Effect Andromeda has a serious lack in quality control with the final version of the game including many bugs, glitches, awkward animations and dialogue. Here's some examples."
The first few hours of Andromeda are a gruesome trudge through the most trite bilge of the previous three games, smeared out in a setting thats horribly familiar, burdened with some outstandingly awful writing, buried beneath a UI that appears to have been designed to infuriate in every possible way.
Back in E3 2016, Electronic Arts showcased a trailer that appeared to be featuring in-game footage from Mass Effect: Andromeda. And since the review codes for Mass Effect: Andromeda have already been sent, you can find below some comparison screenshots between the games E3 2016 build and its final version.
